Garden of Algarve
Marmelete is a village with a population of around 800 people in the municipality of Monchique, also called the garden of the Algarve. The village sits astride the N267 road which runs from Caldas de Monchique in the east to Aljezur in the west. The village is in the western half of the municipality of Monchique, in the heart of the Serra de Monchique and is only a 20-minute drive from the west coast. The parish is bounded on the north by the municipality of Breja, south by the municipalities of Lagos and Portimão, west by the municipality of Lagos and east by the parish of Monchique.
Marmelete is a supplier of cork and black Iberian pig. Beekeeping is common in the hills. The area continues to produce a self-sustaining supply of wild fruits, berries and vegetables.
Aljezur / Praia da Arrifana
Aljezur, around 15 car-minutes away from Marmelete and famous town around surfers. There are plenty of places to see and visit around Aljezur, surf beaches like Praia da Arrifana, Praia da Monte Clerigo and Praia da Amoreira are the most known. Famous surf beaches of the Algarve and one of the most authentic beautiful places to watch the sunset. The beach of Praia da Arrifana is inside the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
In Aljezur you’ll find a big Intermarche, little shops, coffee spots and restaurants.
Lagos
Lagos, a town in southern Portugal’s Algarve region and around 30 car-minutes away from Marmelete. It’s known for its walled old town, cliffs and Atlantic beaches. Found along its cobbled streets of whitewashed buildings are trendy bars and restaurants that sit harmoniously next to traditional Portuguese cafes and family-run shops.
In Lagos you’ll find all well-known supermarkets, several shopping areas, a cosy harbor and more.
Portimao
Portimão – 35 car-minutes from Marmelete – is a port city in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. It’s known for its old quarter, busy marina and proximity to many beaches.
In Portimão you’ll find all modern stores, specialists, etc. you might need.
